National Service Scheme

ACTIVITIES 2010-2011

The N.S.S. Units of the college have organised and conducted a wide variety of activities during the current academic year. As per the direction of the Mahatma Gandhi University, the number of N.S.S. units has limited to two.

Prof. N. Vijayakumar inaugurated the activities of the year on 17th July 2010. An orientation class was conducted by Prof. K.V. Surendranath, former NSS co-ordinator of M.G. university.

The university level inaugration of agreement campaign for Eye Donation was launched from our college. The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rajan Gurukkal inaugurated the campaign and Hon'ble Nair Service Society General Secretary Adv. P.K. Narayana Panicker blessed the occasion. Syndicate member Prof. V.N. Chandramohan and Dr. Rajasekhara Pillai, NSS Laison officer Prof. Anitha Sankar and NSS Coordinator Dr. R. Prakash were present.

Public property conservation day was observed on Ist November in association with legal cell and it was inaugurated by Sri. J. Nazar, CJM Changanacherry.

The NSS unit received the Best Blood donation Institution award constituted by the Blood Donation Forum in a felicitation conducted on CMS college on 2nd November.

KSTP has selected volunteers from our unit for Road survey at Changanacherry and has been given training for survey. They participated in the survey of AC Road.

The NSS units have been successful in fulfilling the dream of plastic free campus. Several one-day camps were conducted to promote personality developmentof students. 42 volunteers participated in the three day Inter collegiate campus conducted by other colleges.

The annual camp was conducted from December 23rd to 29th at St. Mary's L.P. School, Ithithanam with the co-operation of Kurichi Grama Panchayath. Sri. C.F. Thomas MLA, Changanacherry inaugurated the camp. Jobel junction - Thachakunnam road was reconstructed during the camp.

National Service Scheme

Two Units of the national Service Scheme are functioning in our college under the efficient leadership of Dr. P. Jayasree, Dept. of Hindi, Sri. Jithin Sankar, Department of History.

This year's National Service Scheme's activities were inaugurated by Prof. K.V. Surendranathan Nair (Former NSS Co-ordinator, MG University). Two mini camps were conducted in July. Seminars, Talks and Programmes on Personality Development were conducted in the camp. A rally was conducted in association with Gandhi Jayanthi. Classes on Women empowerment, Eye Clinics, Blood Donation Camp was some of the highlights of this year’s activities.

A "Red Ribbon club" for Blood Donors began functioning this year in the college. The NSS volunteers donate food to the Orphanage in Kunnamthanam every week. Assistance is also provided to the mentally retarded inmates of the orphanage.

A Special Camp for the NSS Volunteers for 7 days was held at Govt. UP School, Cheeranchira. Eminent personalities from various walks of life visited the camp. Sramadanam, Seminars, Debates, Quiz and Cultural programmes were held on all days of the camp.
