Economics

Economics was initially offered as a subject, in this college, at the pre-university level. It was upgraded to the graduate level in 1968. The department acquired an additional batch in 1970. The commencement of the PG course in 1981 was a watershed in the history of the department. The department has 8 permanent Faculty members with 5 Ph. D. holders and 3 engaged in doctoral programs. The Department became an approved research center of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala in 2018. The department offers programs at (i) Graduate, (ii) Post-Graduate, and (iii) Doctoral level.

VISION

• To create economists who are environmentally conscious, compassionate, and empowered.
• To impart research skills to students by teaching them economic analysis, with a focus on mathematical economics, econometrics, and statistics.
• To instill in them a feeling of social duty so they can grow into productive and responsible members of society.
